Burness Homes had built a strong reputation through word of mouth and the quality of their finished builds. But their digital presence did not reflect that standard. Prospective clients searching online found either nothing or a placeholder that undersold the calibre of work on offer.
They needed a website that could do what a show home does: let people see the craft, feel the quality, and understand the attention to detail before picking up the phone.
Reputation built on word of mouth and finished builds

02 · The approach
Let the builds tell the story.
Rather than filling the site with copy about quality, we designed an experience that demonstrates it. Large editorial photography takes centre stage, supported by restrained typography and generous whitespace. Every layout decision reinforces the same message: this is considered, intentional work.
We worked closely with the Burness Homes team to identify the details that set their builds apart: the indoor-outdoor flow, the modern gable lines, the finishing touches that homeowners notice years after moving in.
03 · Design language
Editorial, not decorative.
The visual language mirrors how good architecture communicates: through proportion, material, and restraint. Photography does the heavy lifting, supported by clean type and space that lets each image breathe.
No stock imagery. No filler sections. Every element on the page earns its place, the same way every detail in a well-built home does.
Real photography, restrained typography, considered space
Editorial
04 · The build
Brief to launch.
From discovery through art direction, editorial photography, responsive design, and development, the project followed a clear sequence. Each phase informed the next: the brief shaped the art direction, the photography defined the layout, and the design system ensured consistency from mobile through to desktop.
05 · Mobile-first
Craft on every screen.
On a phone, the photography fills the viewport and loads fast. On desktop, the layout opens up with considered spacing and a design language that mirrors the precision of a well-drafted floor plan.
Responsive is not an afterthought. Every breakpoint is designed, not just reflowed.
Photography fills the viewport, fast load, clear hierarchy
Mobile
Generous spacing, expanded gallery, full layout
Desktop
06 · Built to grow
A site that improves with every build.
The content structure means the site improves naturally as new projects complete. Fresh photography slots into the existing framework, keeping the portfolio current without a redesign.
